Acanthus (Bear's Breech)

Plants form semi-evergreen mounds that produce tall stalks of hooded blooms in early to midsummer. Grow in full sun or partial shade and moist but well drained soil.

Insects are of minimal concern, but scout for aphids, spider mites, slugs, root knot nematodes, thrips, and whitefly. Watch for crown and root rot, botrytis, Aster yellows, powdery mildew, rust.

Average water needs, do not tolerate very wet or dry conditions. Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Planting Level:
At soil level, avoid burying crown.

Not generally required, may be needed if under too high or low of light conditions.
