Growing Temperature:
60-68F
Soil pH:
6.0-6.5
Fertility:
Best performance when grown at moderate fertility levels. 100-150 ppm continuous feed. Time release fertilizers can also be used at the medium rate.
Pests and Diseases:
Phlox are particularly susceptiable to powdery mildew. Inspect crops regularly for small white spots on the foilage and use preventive fungicides. Provide good air circulation, maintain low humidity, and keep foilage dry. Alternaria is another fungal disease and often results in the lower leaves drying up and turn borwn. Provide good air circulation and increase lgiht leves to the lower foliage by increasing pot spacing. Preventive sprays are also effective.
Potting and Timing:
Moisture:
Allow pots to dry slightly between watering. Water early in the day and keep foilage dryat all times to prevent diseases.
Planting Level:
center plugs and plant at or just below soil surface. Planting too shallow may cause plugs to dry. Too deep may prevent proper eye development.
PGRs/Pinching:
Pinching stems after 4-6 leaf pairs will promote lateral branching and produce fuller pots with more flowers.
Lighting:
Long days required to flower. Grow under high light levels.
