Sedum (Stonecrop)

Very hardy plants with succulent foliage and colorful terminal flower clusters. Most are very heat and drought tolerant. Will grow in almost any soil.

Growing Temperature:
60-68F for best growth
Soil pH:
6.0-6.5
Fertility:
Light to moderate Feeders
Pests and Diseases:
Aphids are the main pest to scout for. Mildew can be problematic in Sedum, typically presenting as scabbing. Can also come across issues with crown rots caused by Fusarium and Rhizoctonia, as well as stem rot. Preventative fungicide applications can be beneficial in avoiding these problems.
Potting and Timing:
Plant roots in container appropriate for size or lightly prune for best fit. Maintaining warm, moderately dry conditions after transplanting accelerates root establishment and growth.
Moisture:
Grow dry, do not overwater. Excess water can lead to rots.
Planting Level:
Place crown just below soil level, plugs should be at soil level.
PGRs/Pinching:
For plugs, one a week after planting a soft pinch can encourage lateral branching. Growing dry is the best growth control method.
Lighting:
Sedum requires long days to flower. Once small buds have formed, it can be beneficial to move them to a short-day environment to control plant height and faster flowering. Even though Sedum requires a high light environment, in certain very high light intensity areas a light shade cloth of up to 30% may be needed to prevent sun scorch.
